Our Green Beans

Syd and Jerry's offers a good selection of top quality green coffee beans. All our coffees are 100% Arabica.

Green coffee beans are like dried peas, in the sense that they store well for long periods of time. So buying fairly large quantities to obtain a good price makes very good sense.

Always use top quality green coffee. You will get better roast consistency, produce less smoke, and get much better flavor out of clean, well-graded green coffees. The difference in price between top quality green coffee and inferior stuff is definitely not worth the disappointment.

NEW! COSTA RICA TARRAZU TAPARTO
A soaring lightness and lovely balance of sweet and dry tones distinguishes this Costa Rica coffee from Beneficio Dora in the classic Tarrazu growing region. The coffee equivalent of a fine Beaujolais, its dry, bright tones reflect its high growing altitude (over 5,000 feet), its delicate sweetness the care taken in picking only ripe fruit, and its clean, crisp transparency the meticulous attention lavished preparing the beans and drying them.

NEW! ETHIOPIA HARRAR
If you think all coffees tend to taste the same, you will be in for a surprise when you taste this opulently sweet, blueberry-toned Ethiopia Harrar. Harrar is one of the world’s most ancient and traditional of coffees, and one of the most exotic in the cup. Grown in the high, semi-arid mountains of eastern Ethiopia by small-holding Muslim farmers using the most traditional of chemical-free methods, the coffee simply is picked and spread on rooftops to dry, fruit and all. The long contact with the fruit in the dry mountain air gives this coffee its heavy body and amazing fruit character. Individual lots of Harrar differ greatly. Ours was selected by the legendary green dealer Erna Knutsen, one of the founders of the American specialty coffee movement.

MEXICAN CERTFIED ORGANIC, CERTIFIED SHADE GROWN
This new (to us) coffee from the Mexican State of Nayarit is grown on the Cafe Cumbre farm (Hacienda Miravales) in the highlands of the Sierra Madre mountains, where an abundant shade canopy throughout the farm provides the perfect habitat for birds and insects. It is organic coffee of the highest quality, very clean, with a rich complex flavor and a very nice tangy acidity. It is a favorite in our office, and we're sure you will like it too.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - CERTIFIED ORGANIC/SHADE GROWN
From Elan Organic Coffees, this organic Papua New Guinea is a big favorite at Coffee Kinetics. It has the excellent strong character classic to the best Indonesians: a full bodied, smooth and rich cup, medium acidity, and a bold vibrant aroma. It is certified to be organically grown by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia Ltd. (NASAA), an IFOAM accredited organization. The "bird friendly" (shade grown) certification is from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC). This coffee is, like all our coffees, 100% Arabica beans.

PERUVIAN "LA FLORIDA" COOPERATIVE - CERTIFIED ORGANIC/SHADE GROWN
Also From Elan Organic Coffees, this Chanchomayo region organic is a hard bean washed coffee grown at 4,500 feet. It is characterized by slightly higher acidity than Papua New Guinea, an excellent aroma and good body. We think it makes a great drip coffee, and also produces an espresso that stands up well to milk. It is also perfect for blending, due to its mild flavor. OCIA, SMBC certified, this coffee is the product of the 183 certified organic producers that are part of the La Florida cooperative in Central Peru.

SUMATRA - GAYO MOUNTAIN - CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Sourced by Elan Organic Coffees, Gayo Mountain Coffee comes from Takengon, Sumatra, Indonesia. It is a rich, full bodied, sweet, low-acid coffee. It comes from the only factory in North Sumatra producing high quality fully washed coffee. It is certified by SKAL. The factory is one of the most efficient in the world. In the past, Sumatran coffees had wildly fluctuating cup characteristics. Now, join us in a consistent, delicious, socially and environmentally responsible cup.

KENYA AA
It can’t just be passion, though that counts (in its heyday, The Coffee Connection in Boston sold more Kenya coffee than Colombian, and at significantly higher prices), it isn’t just the romance, (though if you have ever been to East Africa, the memories are indelible), it must really be the cup! Like the botrytis which ennobles the wines of Sauternes, like the aromatic essence which distinguishes the black truffle, like that crisp, salty opulence which makes Beluga caviar unique, the aroma and winey acidity of the finest Kenyas are in a class by themselves. In our KENYA, we feel we have found the peer to these other peerless taste encounters. The balance of acidity and sweetness, the depth of body, and the clarity of the finish combine to make this one of the great Kenyas, and therefore, it goes without saying, one of the world’s great coffees.

SWISS WATER PROCESS DECAFFEINATED - BOLIVIAN ORGANIC
The trademark "Swiss Water Process" removes caffeine from coffee without the use of solvents or chemicals. The coffee itself is a Bolivian Organic imported by Elan Organic Coffees, and comes from the Cooperative APROCA founded in 1987 with 164 small farmers averaging 3 acres of land per farmer. Their efforts, and the unusual micro-climate of the area combine to offer a full bodied and very distinctive coffee. We believe its good body, aroma and acidity have survived the decaffeination process well, and that it will provide a sound, sweet cup.
